A 90 is more than ample to power a 16'er for water skiing. Speed depends on a bunch of variables so a forecast would not have much meaning. On this rig being a good one to buy - depends on condition and then there is condition and following that condition. Maybe price also comes into play.

its in great shape always being sheltered. The second owner bought it 3 yrs ago and they were just to old to use it. the seats are all excellent with no tears and the only wear i saw was minimal in front of the windsheild on the apulstry. the trolling motor is a 30 thrust foot driven. It looks like a great boat i just wanted to know if there is any thing with the boat, since they dont make the 16 foot tyee anymore, i should know and the 90 horse merc, if they had any know problems i should know. looks like a good deal for 4000

Re: 90 horse mercury on 1650 Lund

I looked at Lund Tyee pretty hard before I bought the lighter and cheaper Sea Nymph. With a 90 Johnson on it, the Sea Nymph is marginal for our family for skiing now, because my two sons and I are all over 200 pounds (wasn't the case when we started... er, they weren't, I was but nevermind!) When I was looking at the Lund, I figured it needed a 115 minimum. We ski more than fish, so the Lund was a bit much of a boat. The Lund has a great wake for slalom waterskiing, and is roomy and built like a tank.

I would buy a good 1650 Tyee in a heartbeat, even almost 20 years old.

When the kids were smaller, the 90 hp was perfect. We still have a lot of fun with it, but with the extra load in the boat and off the stern, we could use more power. I added a pylon tripod for skiing when they reached 150 pounds, and that has worked well. We can all get up on our tournament ski behind the 90 hp, it just takes a while. We've propped it at 17 and 19 pitch. I like the 19 better for top end but the hole shot is better with a 17. I think the motor is happier with the 19, and now that the boys are grown I might switch it back.

Hope this helps.
funpilot

I have a 32 year old 15 ft. lund that can pull skiers with only a fifty. Lund is a very durable boat. 4000 is a great price for that boat. If trailer is included that is a steal. dont know much about the merc. Have a 50 horse 1971 Johnson on mine

My 16' Mr.Pike is a heavy 16 foot and I have no issues with pulling tubes but it takes me awhile to drag a 200# skier up (and with 2 people in the boat pulling a skier I hit 27mph tops). Whats that 1650 Tyee rated for 90hp or 115hp? mine rated for a 75hp but grandpa had a 130hp yamaha hanging off the back for 18 year. Feels sluggish with the 55hp on it now (he kept the 130hp to put on his 18' Tyee)
