90 hp Chrysler - stalls at low idle

I recently bought a 90 hp Chrysler outboard. Motor runs well, after it warms up except at low idle. At first I thought it may be throttle cable as I really have to extend it to get full speed/ After reading some posts problem could be check valves.

What is the best manual for this boat and changing check valves?

Does anyone have PICS they can post of check valves?

This is my first venture into motor boats and my family is loving it so far.

Thank you for assistance.

Re: 90 hp Chrysler - stalls at low idle

I doubt it is the check valves. There is a mixture adjust screw on each carb on the upper face near the choke butterflies. That screw when removed is the idle circuits of the carb. If you follow them through the screw holes they come out three very tiny holes in the carb near the throttle butterflies. These carbs tend to gum up here and can lead to poor idleing. As a quick test you can slowly turn one of these clockwise while counting the turns till it lightly seats. Then turn it counterclockwise till it and the spring inside are removed. First verify the tip is not damaged or knicked. Spray a shot of carb cleaner in the hole that screw was in with the straw that came with the carb cleaner then reinstall the screw and spring so that it was the same amount of turns out it was originally. See if that improves the idle perfomance.

Chrysler crew sells downloadable factory manuals for chrysler. If not them try a Clymer.
