90 HP Johnson Trim / Tilt Question?

I have just recently purchased my first Bass Boat. It is a 1990 Alumacraft with a 90 HP Johnson attached to a 115 hp motor bracket. The power trim / tilt (attached to the motor bracket) will not go down, but will go up. I traced out the wiring and to go down it goes through a Selenoid (which is definatly bad) and to go up it is wired directly to the TNT Motor. Is this correct? I would think that you would want a selenoid to go up if any. It is a 3 wire TNT Motor. Does anyone know how it should be wired or maybe have a schmatic, ect.

Re: 90 HP Johnson Trim / Tilt Question?

Welcome to the forums newbassboat!<br /><br />The color coding on the TNT units is blue = up....green = down. ( blue sky, green grass)<br /><br />If the green side of the motor is attached to the solenoid, that's is wrong. Should be the other way around.<br /><br />What ya' can do to test the motor is connect it direct to the battery. Black to the negative. Jump the blue for up and the green for down to the positive terminal.<br /><br />This will at least let you know if the TNT unit motor is working.<br /><br />As far as the 90hp engine being attached to a 115hp bracket...well, really wasn't any difference unless somebody did some re-arranging.<br /><br />Look on the port transom bracket for a metal tag. That tag will have a model number. Now look on the engine block for a large welch plug. The engine model number will be on there also. See if they match up. If they are different, post them here and we can find out what's what.
