Ok I like many other am having sportjet issues. Mine is a 90hp 1995. I am missing the sound attenuator/airbox on it. I have never really worked on engines so its all very new to me. I had a mechanic come and help me out with getting it running. He told me that the attenuator wasn't really important but we still had problems starting it. I did some research myself because I had hoses just hanging off the carbs. Sure enough they attach to the sound attenuator. I looked at the older models and it didn't look all to important on those but in my model one of them connects to an auto enrichner. I did some research and found out that this helps control the amount of gas released into the system. I then figured that the lack of this hose being attached to the attenuator might be causing it to either flood the engine or not give enough gas to it. If this is the case then the attenuator would actually be important to get a hold of. Would anyone know if this is true? Would anyone know were the heck can i find this part? I have seriously looked every were. The other issue I am having is my genius mechanic I hired decided it was a good idea to try to start it without a flush kit. So BLAMMO blown rideplate....ugh...I hadn't been on the forums yet so I didn't see the 90 million warnings to not do this. Fortunately the ride plate only sneezed off and although a little bent its not torn or broken so I think it can be bent back into shape and placed back in with a new rubber seal. The thing that bothers me is that after this happened I had it parked in my garage and a puddle of fluid pooled under the jet drive. This was not gas nor was it the oil mixture because it was not blue in color. It was rather thick and smelled like car oil or something similar. Any clue where this fluid could be coming from and what I might need to repair in that area? Would it be some sort of hydrolic fluid or lubricating oil for the jet drive parts? Is there anything down in that area that could have been blown loose?

Have your serial # ready, go here to look at the factory parts diagrams

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/SelectProductLine.asp

I don't remember the attenuator hose being connected to the enrichener, it should have been tied into the re-circ lines to recover and bleed in any carb overflow.

The enrichener should be tapped into the fuel line after the pump, the electric solenoid valve would open and allow fuel directly into each intake to richen only during the ignition being depressed for enrichment.

You should find a service manual here, another member posted these links that can be quite helpful.

OK so if you take a look at the image I found online of what my assembly should look like you can see a line running out the bottom labeled to go to the fuel enrichner.

I found another older style assembly that I picked up but have yet to install. It has an extra connection from the bottom but it might be a different size. Anyway just trying to figure out how exactly it connects and how important it really is. If anyone knows were to get the assembly like the one in the picture it would be greatly appreciated.

More importantly the mechanic that was working on my boat blew my ride plate off I am ordering a new rubber seal to set this in but the plate itself still looks in good condition. My issue is that after he sneezed it off some sort of oil or lubricant leaked out. I have so idea what fluids run through the bottom area were the ride plate is. It is not gas nor is it the normal 2 stroke oil. Anyone have a clue on what it might be that leaked out? It was clear to yellowish in color and did not have a strong odor but smelled like cooking oil.

Here is an image were I highlighted the auto enrichner.

Auto_Enrichner_1.jpg

I don't see a connection labeled in here that it is connecting to the sound attenuator. The only thing I see that is not already connected to something is this one.

But I am uncertain if anything is even supposed to be connected to this. I guess if I could see one of this already connected it would be a large help but i cant find an image for the life of me.

Unfortunately I have no serial number as well. The flywheel cover is missing and the flywheel itself is an aftermarket. This means that I have no serial for the engine. Looking at the www.boats.net diagrams there really is not a difference with these parts between any of the serials produced in 95.
