I am trying to help my brother out with his 90hp yamaha engine. His engine will run good for a while then will start sputtering like it has lost a cylinder. He was getting a steady alarm. We determined that the alarm signified a probable overheat. We replaced the water pump and also found the thermostat was corroded and stuck closed so we installed a new thermostat as well. Thought it was fixed. We took it out this weekend and had same problem. No alarm sounded this time though. It also got to the point where engine would not even run. Got it home and started trouble shooting. We thought it was the thermo-switch so we jumpered it then tried to start engine. Starter engaged then quit. Now we get absolutly nothing. 20 amp fuse in main harness keeps blowing. Did we fry the CDI?

Re: 90 hp Yamaha 2-stroke

Well, we figured out the problems. Found a wire for the trim/trailer switch shorted. Also found that we had 37 gal of bad gas. Cleaned carbs, repaired shorted wire. Know it runs like a champ.:D
Anybody have any suggestions for getting rid of 37 gal of sour gas?

I mixed small amounts in with my truck to get rid of it.
Also in the lawn equipment.
