90 Johnson 115 - hard to start after tubing

I took the kids tubing today for a couple of hours. The motor ran fine until we headed in. While I was waiting to load the boat the motor died on the wife and she couldn't get it restarted. I finally got it started but, there were several iterations of stalling before I got the boat on the trailer. Got her home put on the muffs and she fired right up with one click of the key and no choke. Go figure! Bulb was hard, gas was fresh, everything seems normal. Any ideas?

Thanks,
John

Two different worlds in the water and on the muffs do to load differences. When was the last decarbe or have you added seafoam in awhile. What did the plugs look like and compression on each cylinder.. I would start with the Deep Crep. Several things it could be from a hot pack to carb blockage but if it were me I would feed it a little Deep Crep first.

What is Deep Crep? I have some Seafoam but, was waiting until I ran all of the fuel stabilizer out. I used some penzoil marine fuel stabilizer. Do I need to wait or can I dump the seafoam into the take and run it through?

The motor has 120 hours on it even though it's 15 years old. I am the original owner. I like to bass fish so, I use the TM a lot. Haven't checked compression recently but, plugs look good. Lower port side is a little dryer then the others. I suspect carb blockage since I have had that problem before due to sitting without use. Now that my kids are getting older I don't think that is going to be a problem d:)

I try to flush it on the muffs regularly to help with the sticky carb syndrome when I can't make it to the lake. It ran very good while tubing. Probably put 11 gallons of gas through it. I have a 24 gallon built in tank.

Thanks,
John

Deep Crep is seafoam in an aerosol form and is sprayed through the carb while the engine is running will help with decarbe and carb cleaning issues. I am not sure on adding seafoam to other fuel stabilizers never used anything other than seafoam. You can get Deep Crep at NAPA or like stores just follow the directions. I really force feed the hell out of my motors with it.

Thanks! Several years ago I did a lot of trolling with this motor. I have never decarbed persay. I have run Marvel Myster Oil through it a couple of times to clean out the fuel system. Not sure if it is a "de-carber", I'd have to look at the bottle again. A friend of mine that works on cars recommended it.

Sounds like flooding? Happens again, try using the high-idle lever to open the throttle while you start it and idle it up for a few seconds after it starts.

I have a '90 Evinrude 90 hp--essentially the same motor, with the same problem. My problem was faulty gaskets--head and exhaust cover, allowing water into the cylinders, causing it to start hard after wamed up. This might be the cause of your problem as well. Good luck.

The Deep Creep works great! If problem persists, I would soak the carb in seafoam or another good carb cleaner, deepending on how bad the junk is in your carb. It worked great for me.
