I have 1990 OMC Cobra outdrive with a 2.3 litre Ford engine. I was cruising from one spot to another shut the boat off and after about an hour sitting fishing. I went to start it and it wouldn't restart. I freaked out and after cranking it for a while it started with the throttle open but when I moved it back to neutral it quit. I finally managed to start it and jam in into gear and got back to the dock. Then it wouldn't restart at all. I checked the distributor cap and it was carboned up where the wires go in. I changed it and after a few minutes of cranking it finally started and seems ok. My question is what would cause the carbon build up in the cap and is my problem really solved? Thanks for any info.
