Hello everyone,

I am a force 90hp owner in Sydney Australia and have quite a serious ignition problem I’m hoping to get some help on.

My motor is a force (US Marine) 90HP with blue power packs and blue coils, the serial plate is missing but i have been told the age is approx 1991. The motor keeps burning out coils & power packs then when i replace them the motor runs fine for a few trips (10hrs) then a coil or power pack will die and i need to be towed back. In Australia there are very limited parts available and my problem has now seen all wreckers run out of power packs and coils. All parts replaced were second hand so it may be that they weren’t good to start with. I have also had the Stator and flywheel replaced in the hope it may help, all by boat mechanics but none will touch it now due to lack of quality parts.

My questions
1. Has anyone heard of this problem before? Is it common?
2. Is there anyone that sells new force parts interested in selling me the coils stator and power packs then posting to Sydney Aust?

I'm rapidly running out of parts and no longer know if i should call it quits or keep fixing it

Thanks

There is a company CDI Electronic's, they make high quality aftermarket ignition parts for Force/Chrysler motors.I replaced the whole ignition system ( stator, coils, control boxes, recifter, the trigger really doesn't go bad but check it out anyways, also check the wires for rub marks and broken connections under the insulation ) on an old force 85HP engine and never had any problem since then, you might want to check the recifter

Here is the contact information for Rapair, parent company of CDI Electronics. http://rapair.com/support/Default.aspx?tabid=89

They have a troubleshooting guru on staff that you can talk to.

I believe they have an conversion kit, that will switch the entire ignition system over to the newer more reliable style.

Here is the contact info for the AU distributor:

Moby Marine Services P/L
40 Barry Ave.
Mortdale, NSW 2223
Australia
(61) 2-9153-6506
mrmoby@aol.com
