1997 Force 90hp with CD ignition. When the engine is warm, and at idle or during slow speed, the No. 3 plug will not fire. At high speed it's fine. The plug and plug cable are fine. What ignition component is the most likely culprit, based on your experience? Please advise.

Re: 90hp ignition problem

I'm not sure if that has CDM ignition or ADI. ADI has blue coils with screw terminals. CDMs have plug-in connectors. If it's CDM, swap a couple and see what happens. If the failure follows the CDM, then replace the CDM. It could be the trigger, but dang few of those ever fail. The stator is good because you are getting good spark elsewhere. If it's ADI it could be a coil, switchbox, trigger, or some other possibilties. Of those I'd suspect the switchbox, but they're rather expensive and I wouldn't bet the price on it that I'm right. Like the CDMs, if you swap a couple of coils, the problem is the coil if the problem travels with it.
