I have a 98 model Jonhson 90hp without VRO that has #1 and #3 pistons rings  broke and caused damage to the pistons and cylinder walls. I have an estimate for 1200.00 to rebuild power head along with carbs and waterpump. Is that about right?

The main thing is to rectify what caused the problem. Starboard side broken rings are usually a result of coking. Set up is key. Look for 5800 rpm with an average load. If youre in the low 5000 range now you may want to look at set up to get the rpm's up.

Good luck!
