'99 90hp johnson 60degree v4. Always ran fine and started fine until today. Pressed choke in for a few seconds, starts but will die out. Tried pumping choke by pressing while running and will run up to 10 seconds. Used primer solenoid lever to try to keep running but can only maintain for 30 seconds or so, while moving lever back and forth to try to keep it idling.

Fuel filter checked and cleaned, it was very clean. Has permanent fuel tank and is always vented. Tried using throttle while cranking and choke to 'overide quikstart' still will run for only a few seconds. Seems like when the priming fuel is gone it dies. Im at a loss about the quikstart. Could priming bulb be culprit even though it pumps up and has good firm pressure?

Thanks

CindyLu,
When is the last time the carbs on that outboard have been cleaned? If it hasn't been done in a while I would now. Reason being is, that the oil/fuel mixture flows through those carbs to the pistons and to me that sounds what your issue is. It is probably the low/idle speed jet/orifice or the passageways tha are clogged up. I would disassemble them and clean every orrifice/jet out as well as the passageways and blow these out by compressed air and resemble with brand new carb kits with new gaskets and new needle and seats. Now, what happens if you pump the bulb while somebody drives the boat and see if it picks up that would tell me the fuel pump might be weak or going bad. let us know

We ran it with the muffs on while pumping the bulb and no difference. Also the bulb stays real firm and doesn't suck down or deflate. It has Stabil put in the gas religiously for the 9 months Ive has her. She's going in tommorrow as the carb work is way over my head. I'll reply what is found. Thanks as alway for all the help on this forum. You guys are great.
