90hp merc what is oil mix

Hi all , Just got my frist outboard , and i need a little help here, I think it is a 1978 merc 900 90hp 945-326 in line 6 . is it really a 2 cycle ??? and is the mix 16 to one ??? thanks john

Yes it is a 2 cycle and the mix should be 50:1. 1 pint oil to 6 gal gas.

Many engines have units that adjust the oil to gas mixture from 50:1 to 100:1, depending on how fast your running. The theory being that you don't need as much oil all the time and that engines run more efficiently at the 100:1.

However, I've never trusted such things. Manually mixing your oil at 50:1, 1 pint oil to 6 gallons gas, is the safest way to go. Might smoke a little, but at least your protected. One less thing to worry about.

very cool thanks for the help. Like i said this us my frist outboard. I had a I/o before think i will like the gas mileage with the outboard, thanks again guys , I am sure i will have more questions ,,,, thanks
