I am trying to put a 1990 40 hp on a new aluminum 16 ft. boat (also made by Yamaha) that originally had a 60 HP 4stroke on it. The controls and gauges are all Yamaha, the remote box is a Yamaha Model 6X0. The round connector hooks up fine the steering and the shift cable seems to be correct and works and shifts in the right direction but the throttle cable is 2 or 3 inches too short and moves in the wrong direction. I also have 2 connectors with square and 3 wires in one and 2 in the other (I assume these are for the tach, fuel gauge, etc.) ends that don't match up. The motor has a red and 2 green wires with bullet type connectors on them not attaced to anything. Everyone I called before I bought this engine said it was very simple to swap. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? Thanks
