I'll try this again. Cant figure out the year of my motor, I know about using the word "INTRUDUCES"
to figure the year but my I.D tag only has the word "VOID" stamped all over it. Near as I can figure it is between a 90 and 92.

Real problem is that my motor stops suddenly after running at full throttle after a few minutes, and the rope is very hard to pull right afterwards. After a cool down, it will start again but quits after a few more minutes at full throttle. Motor will run great with no problems at half throttle. I have checked the impellor and it looks good but there is a lot of corrosion? in the lower unit in the front two chambers ! where the shift fork goes and the other where the water pump sits. Any ideas on whats going on?

Hi, Gam.

Need a little bit more info.

What fuel mix are you using?
Is telltale stream strong and warm?
What happens if you try to run with the bonnet off?

Let us know. :)

50:1 fuel mix, No stream on this model pisser is under water, havent tried running it with the bonnet off yet. Is there a temp switch that would shut the motor down?

I think there is a tell-tale on that engine -- I have a '90 9.9hp, and the t.t. is at the lower right rear of the cowling. In my manual, the water circulation chart shows water coming up to the tell-tale before it circulates through the engine.

It sounds like the motor might be overheating. If you can hold your hand on the top of the head, it's OK, but if you can't, it's overheating. The thermostat should be mounted at the top of the head, facing aft -- three-screw mount. You might try removing it if the engine is indeed running hot,and running the engine without it to see if it runs cooler. There is a spring holding the t.stat in place, so don't let it pop out when you are removing the cover.

Try to post a picture, the 88 on models have a plastic housing on back og the leg covering the idle exhaust hole - pre 88 dosent.
86 on (or there around) have a safety line and switch (except commercial models).

Interesting that your id tag says VOID - newer seen that before. Dont run the engine without propper cooling.

Well, cleaned up the lower unit, blew out the **** tube, got it put back together and ran a 32:1 mix. The motor now runs great, must of had something cloging the tube?
Still would like to know if there is any other way to find out the year of this motor besides the data plate.

The freeze plug in the top of the block should have the model number stampped in also.

VOID has nothing to do with any serial number. Who did that? The police, the dealer, Coast Guard? Has this engine been stolen sometime before? Maybe there is no serial numbers left.

Why the 32:1 mix?

/Bear
