Is there any issue with hooking up a hose to the garden hose and running water through the heads to see if there is any blockage? I'm in the process of replacing the thermostats and thought it might be an interesting thing to do. I haven't looked at the water flow diagram in manual but, am going to.

Thanks,
John

I have no idea just what the hell those other 2 post are, but I see no problem....just make sure no water can enter a cylinder

I read in the "how to use this forum" that to bump to the top use the "^^^" symbols. That's what the 2 previous posts were.

The more I think about flushing the engine, I was wondering if using a radiator flush through the system would get some of the mineral deposits and junk the may be inside the head? Maybe use a bucket a small pump and a couple of hoses with a filter on the intake. pump the radiator flush through the head through the water input and return to the bucket through the thermostat housing port. One side at a time without the thermostats installed.

When I pulled the thermostats they were caked with what looked like calcium deposits. Before I put them back in I want to do everything I can to make sure that the water passages in the engine are as free as possible.

Thanks,
John

CLR will remove alot of the build up , as well.

If it were mine and I thought the water passages in the heads were clogged.

I'd pull the heads and water jacket covers and give them a good cleaning .

All it costs is the gaskets and time.

The label on the CLR says "DO NOT USE CLR on ...Aluminum,copper, brass... or any other damaged or cracked surface". Sounded like a great idea until I read the label. I'm going to checkout what they have at the auto supply.

Thanks,

My fault, I've soaked water pumps , for vehicles in it in the past.

Hadn't used it on an outboard, but just figured it would be ,ok.

I'm not the best for reading instructions, like I know I should.

Thanks , for the heads up, now I won't make that mistake.
