91' 15 hp evinrude -trying to recoil rope start HELP!

today I pull started it and it never recoiled back. the engine started luckily as I was 2hrs troll back to my
truck. I took of cover and knew it was complicated. at home now finished trying to wind up that spring,keepin it together,getting it back into position without loosening, etc etc
NEED HELP!

1: Check that cup and edges are in good condition.
2: Hold the cup in left hand, let the spring out in front of you on the floor. (NO sand on the floor!!!)
3: Coil the spring into the cup with your right hand, keeping it down and in place in the cup with thumb and ring-finger.
When spring is in place, check that the big washer at the bottom is there, put the spool on with the pin in the spring eye.
4: Put in the screw while holding the cup and spool firmly together in your left palm..
If setting aside the unit while preparing engine or other things, put a tie-strap or hose clamp around the screw sticking out to keep the assembly together.

I have a new spring now to put in. Do I need to grease it before winding it in?
