I am still working on removing my stuck trim tilt unit. I drilled out the release screw and tried to ez it out but it would not come out. I drilled all the way through it and let it release the fluid little by little. Lifting the motor up and down released the fluid a little at a time. Tried drilling a hole in the pump under the tilt motor to help release the fluid. Motor up and down, little by little fluid came out. I have the engine almost high enough to take off the retainer clips on the top pin and remove the unit completely. NOT A EASY JOB. will have toreplace the tilt motor and the pump. Any suggestions on a good place to purchase ?

DLG

Now you know why I took mine to the dealer to fix that very problem! Now I don't condone this, but:

I did read a post sometime back, where a man that had the same problem, took a piece of round tapered cork( Like in a wine bottle) and put some epoxy on it and drove it into the relief hole to stop the leak. Filled it up and said he never had a problem with it again. Since you are going to have to replace the unit anyway,I would be tempted to give it a try. Keep the epoxy off the end of the cork, to prevent it from getting inside the unit. If the pump works now. I would go for it! Nothing to lose at this point and the plug will never come out, unless you chisel it out. The only draw back is, that you could not release the motor manually. But how often do you do that?? Good old American inginuity. :)
