The engine seems to be using too much oil. I add 3/4 (+/-) of oil after using just a few gallons of gas ( under 10). The engine does smoke (I think too much) but old timers say what did you expect with a 2 stroke? Could this be caused by a leaky gasket at the fuel pump? Otherwise engine runs strong once I get it back togeather after the thermostat adventure( see previous post)
Thanks...

What do you mean you add 3/4 to every 10 gallons of gas. 3/4 of a quart or a gallon?

Sorry, I use 3 quarts (+/-) for every 10 gallons or so and it's , of course a VRO sysytem

Yup, sounds excessive.
You might want to consider changing the pump or going to straight pre-mix and disconnecting the vro.

Well if that's accurate then I would say that that is a lot of oil. Figure if a 50:1 ratio is 6 gallons of gas to 16oz of oil, then all you would need for 12 gallons would be a quart. So your using more than 3 times the amount of oil needed for 10 gallons of fuel. Which is roughly a 12:1+ ratio, which would cause that thing to probably not run too good, and probably wouldn't run strong as you say above. Are you sure you don't mean that you use 3/4 of a quart for every 10 gallons, because that would be right on for 50:1 ratio?

Thanks for the comeback...
Yeah it's excessive, and I'm have a external tank with premix in it and I'm going to give it a try, if I get a surprising amount of power and a reduction in smoke then the VRO is history.
I missing valuable striper action playing with this thing..better days are coming..thanks again
Seb
