Black = Ground
Black with yellow stripe = Kill Switch
Smaller Red = 12v + to fuze/breaker box in dash
blue = trim up
green = trim down
yellow with red stripe = Start from key via neutral lockout
Gray = Tach
purple from dash = Usually connects to tan on warning module

That's the basics on a 91 Mariner. If your colors don't match at the harness then you'll have to trace the wires from harness connector for the boat to the other end to find out what they do.

As a side note - If that engine is all original, think seriously about upgrading the fuel pump parts with the latest revision. The check valve disc's have a tendency to suck through in the original version and the pump head plunger is larger. This is a also a pulse driven pump so if you install a fuel/water separator use a 21 micron filter not a 10 micron.

Re: 91 mariner 115

Hey guys this is a little off topic but I have a 91 100HP Mariner and I think I need to replace the impeller. I know very little about Mariners but I am a decent mechanic. Can someone send me pic of where the thermostat is on the motor. I just got the motor and started it. I kept my hand on the power head and shut it down at the first sign of heat. The strange thing is that the lower section of the power head was cool like water was getting to it but the top warmed up. I plan on replacing the impeller but worry it might be the thormostat is bad. Can anyone help????:confused:

The thermostat is on the back of the engine, on the left hand side of #1 plug. Theres a cover over it with a gasket, under that is the poppet valve, aka thermostat. Just below it is the overtemp sensor. It has a wire comming from it that looks like it's comming out of a hole in the block. As long as you got a good stream out of the pee tube you're probably o.k.

Best advice is to get the Clymer manual then get an impeller and a seal kit. Change the upper seals when you do the impeller and save yourself future headaches.

Re: 91 mariner 115

Udawg - The two blue wires are for your alarm module. The light green and the blue/white connect to it. The brown and white/black are spares for a trim gauge and temp gauge if you want to use them. The red, black and green are unknown. I suspect the were for a remote trim/tilt switch. See if the connect to the upper two solenoids and a 12+ somewhere.

That # 4 coil wire has been fixed, you should replace it with a single whole wire. Any others like that you should fix too. I have the same exact engine and I've been through every inch of the wiring.

Side note: You have two injectors underneath the Wiring plate and a filter for them behind the oil tank. Take them out, disassemble them and clean them, if you don't and they are plugged, your accelerator pump will not function and your engine will never come up to speed. Check out page 4 of my resto thread to see exactly where they are.

Thnxxxxx for the info. I was checking out your restore, very cool. I just picked up this 1991 Princecraft Springboc SuperPro 196(thats a mouthfull). The hull is very close to yours just longer. We do not see many big aluminum boats down here in Florida but this thing just caught my fancy and the price was right. I will try to get some pics loaded assoon as I can. Thnx again.

I have you & laddies telling me what color wire does what but i only have 5 wires that arent connected to anything & the colors dont match up to what yall are telling me so this is why im confused about what those 5 wires do. They've got to be tilt/ trim & possibly gauge or alarm wires.

Re: 91 mariner 115

The green and what appears to be white wire should trace back up to your trim solenoids. The green takes the green/white stripe wire from the harness and the one that looks white takes the blue/white stripe wire from the harness.

The two blue wires from the alarm module connect to the two blue wires you show by the oil tank. Just plug them in, there is no order.

If its got a trim switch on the cowl then the red would be power, green is down and blue is up. I usually pick those up at the solenoids. It makes a neater mess.

Assuming your circle is around the lower large terminal on the starter solenoid and the the top cable is going to the starter then yes, that is where you connect your battery positive lead.

That black and yellow stripe lead is your engine kill. You may have more than one connector but at least one has to go to ground when the key turns off or your engine will never shut off.

Re: 91 mariner 115

Hey SSCHEFER you seem to know what your talking about so please tell me why does the tach on my 91 100hp Mariner not work when I plug in the gray wire that comes from the silver wiring harness that sits atop the carberator intake on the front of the motor. It has 2 yellow one grey and I believea red wire. I noticed my tach would not work and I unplugged that wire and it started to work when I plugged it back in it stopped. Also my TNT meter is stuck in the up position even when the motor down. Any ides??? :confused:

They say a picture is worth a thousand words... What's a circuit diagram worth?
