Hello,
I have a 91 merc 135 black max that’s been acting up lately. We’ve had it for over 20 years and has had no big issues and has always ran great. But over the past couple years when starting it won’t idle right off the bat. You have to give it some gas to get it started but then it will die after revving no matter how long you hold it for. The only way to get it moving is to turn the key and quickly put it in gear and after a few tries it normally goes.
But now also when I do get it in gear sometimes I will have trouble getting it on plane. I put the throttle all the way down and it will rev up a little but just push through the water for a while. Eventually it does get on plane and when it does it runs like brand new.
I have a couple ideas about what it could be but someone with some more experience might be able to help me out here. I’m thinking it might be the stator, or something to do with the carbs or a fuel related problem. Thanks in advance for the help!
