I have posted several different questions the past few days regarding my new (to me) Suzuki DT 75 Motor. I need to recap from the beginning and see if anyone can lead me in the right direction.

When the previous owner ran the motor it started right up and ran fine. When I got it home it wouldn't run at all, and after checking for spark (STRONG on all 3 cyl) I noticed that the fuel was VERY dirty. I drained both tanks, cleaned and dried them, and then filled them with premium fuel and a half bottle of techron. I replaced the fuel filter as well.

The motor still didn't want to start, so I took off the air box and sprayed starting fluid into the carbs. The motor started, but was running a little ragged. As it would start easily, I took it out (in the LI Sound).

Initially it ran ragged, and sounded like only 2 cylinders were working, but after a while the motor started to run great. We went though a tank of gas, and I was confident that the motor just needed to get good gas through it. I replaced the plugs after I got home, just for the heck of it, as the old ones looked pretty good.

The next day I went out again, and as before, the motor ran great, pushing the 17' runabout to close to 35 Mph. As a new boater, that speed was a little uncomfortable, and most of the day was spent cruising around 20 Mph. The motor was purring, and then I ran out of gas in the first tank. I switched to the second tank, and the problems began. Firstly I noticed that the "water" light in the Suzuki gauge was on. The motor was pumping water strongly, and I am confident that it did not overheat. Then,as a few days before, the motor would not run smoothly, and seemed to be running on 2 cylinders. This time however, the problem would not go away. I took the boat home and when I flushed it with fresh water it started strongly and readily.

This morning I started the motor, it started easily again, so I took it out for a run. The motor ran a little rough on the way out of the channel, but I figured that it would smooth out as it had before. The problem got worse however, and the motor stalled, and was VERY dificult to re-start. When it did start it would only run for a few seconds, and would make a fairly loud "chirping" noise (backfire?) and stall. Eventually I got towed in (thanks Uncle Barry!) and here we go again.

So, short of taking it to a repair place, where do I go from here? Anyone have any idea as to what I should do now? Thanks in advance for your help.

Your general story sounds like a Suzuki in need of a thorough carb cleaning/rebuild. This is not uncommon on outboards. The visibly dirty gas is another suspicious observation. The "chirping" or sneezing is consistent with a 2-stroke suffering from a lean mixture which is what you would get from a dirty carb. I would recommend that you go to the bottom of this web page and order a manual and then order a carb rebuild kit from your dealer or someplace like www.brownspoint.com .
Then you can remove the carbs and thoroughly clean the orifices with carb cleaner and compressed air and install the rebuild kit parts. Then you will be good to go.

While you're at it I would replace the water pump impeller unless the previous owner had replaced it in the last year.
