I have purchased a Crestliner 1448 MT jon boat (14' long-48" bottom width)for lake fishing and the engine above. It has a 9? X 10 prop that I believe is the prop it came with. The prop is not in good shape and has two bent tips. The specs for this engine say max RPM is 7000. Can anyone guess if that prop in new condition would be right for that boat (260 lb hull) plus probably 400-450 lbs of people and gear. I can't find a good one to borrow to try and I would hate to buy a new one I can't return and find it is too much prop.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: '92 15 Evinrude prop

I was in your shoes doing tons of research. I tried the prop that I thought would be the best and was disappointed. I decided to call the store and ask if they would take back the prop and they did. If you get a prop and are not happy don't think twice about asking to swap props. I wouldn't suggest running all day on the prop. I went out and new immediately and took it back it looked brand new even though the guy said he couldn't sell it.

Good luck

Where I am noone has anything in stock so it will have to be a special order.

I will keep looking for one. Does that prop fit anything besides the 15?

jauguston,
Call different dealers, those that have a selection of props in stock will usually let you try them out. Around here the norm is that you buy them on your credit card, go try them, bring back what you don't want in new condition, and they charge you for what you damage and/or keep.

Another option is to go with a Pirhana prop. They have no problem swapping you different pitch blades. I use them and find them great on that motor. Blades are available in 9, 10 1/2, 11, and 13 inch pitches for the hub that fits that engine.

Cheers,
Snow.

Re: '92 15 Evinrude prop

I found a good 9? X 10 stock prop and got a good suprise.

The boat is a Crestliner (Lowes) 1448MT Jon.

I was alone and it pushed it 25.1 mph at 6980 rpm. GPS and Tinytach.

I had several say 7000 rpm was too high for that engine even though the Evinrude manual says 7000 is max rpm. Obviously OMC had it figures out pretty close (-:

I am sending the slightly bent prop I have to Propshopltd in Seattle for repair. I was quoted $48.00 to fix it up better than new.
