92 Evinrude 40 VRO not run for 2 yrs

I just purchased a 92 Evinrude 40 VRO that has not been run for 2 yrs. Is there anything particular I should do before starting. I am concerned about the VRO not functioning. I have hooked everything up and turned the engine over with the starter but have not attempted to run.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Mike

It definitely needs an impellor and it probably needs a carbs cleaning. I would premix the first tank of fuel, make sure the VRO tank is full and mark the oil level. Then run thru that first tank and check the oil level mark to be sure the VRO is pumping.

Ribs,<br /><br />Do what Walker said. However, I would dump the old oil, replace the pick up screen in the oil tank, and reprime.<br /><br />Mark the oil level and pre-mix until you verify oil useage.
