92 Evinrude 85 hp v4 tiller

I have 92 Evinrude 85 HP V4 tiller model. This motor ran and purrrrred like a kitten. Last year the VRO pumb was replaced and the resistor(?) for the generator. The Old VRO pumb didnt need to be replace . but the dealer told me to have it replaced with the new up graded model. However, the motor runs very ruff and smokes like crazy at start up. It never used to do this. I was told that the new VRO replacement will cause the motor to smoke more. Why is this?? I have change the plugs and still it doesnt run a smooth as it did before. What happened??

The newer VRO pumps don't vary the oil ratio as much. From what I have read on this forum, it basically mixes oil at 50-60:1 all the time. The old pumps were around 100:1 at idle and dropped to 50:1 at higher rpm's. Therefore you will see more smoke at idle.
