First time poster, long time reader...thanks for all the second hand help over the years!

I have a '92 Johnson 120 V4 which I've owned for 3 years now and has always run great until this year.

A month ago it started to lose power while in use. Basically it would go from 50mph down to 40mph like losing a couple cylinders or something and after 5 - 10 minutes it would cut back in. I put in new plugs and it ran good for day or so and then the issue came back. Sometimes it would start in this funk and sometimes it would start running perfectly, but never have had a problem starting the thing.

Last weekend I brought it out for the first time since and it ran for 30 seconds and then stalled out and could not be restarted.

- It seems to be running very rich, I disconnected oil injection and mixed manually but no change.
- small amount of oil on bottom of carb cover when removed to inspect carbs
- ran in driveway last night and a bunch of sludge was being ejected from prop exhaust (thermostat issue???)

That is all I can think of right now, thanks in advance for any advice. Oh and tonight I plan on doing spark test, maybe coil is going???

Thanks.

Can anyone lend some thoughts on why I seem to be running so rich?

Do a spark, fuel, compression test first. Sounds like it could be a spark issue, if it is you could have some unburned fuel, and oil.
