'92 OMC 3.0 L EST Timing

I have a '92 OMC 3.0 L. with EST ingnition. What is the procedure for setting the base timing?<br /><br />Thanks, Capt'n Happy

You need to install a tool called a shunt. Then set the timing to 0°. <br />I had a picture of one but can't find it right now. Will look for it this evening if no one else chimes in.

I can't find a picture of the tool you need, an OMC dealer(may be REAL hard to find) or a Mercruiser dealer, or Volvo dealer can order one for you. You may even try your local NAPA, not sure if they do or not.<br />But here is a basic diagram of how the "Shunt" is wired when hooked to the ignition module in the EST distributor.<br /><br />
