Just rebuilt carb.idle tube goes fromnozzel well to fitting on carb body. fitting on carb body is blocked.I could not get a drill bit thru it(not spinning)is this supposed to be.engine runs good at idle but will not speed up,but I beleive that problem is from a crack in the top carb body cover.Just want to know about the idle tube.should it be drilled out or left as is?Thanks much. dave(I dont understand why there would be a tube to a closed fitting. :(

Re: 92 rude 9.9 carb question

That hole needs to be open Dave. And the top cover needs replaced if it's cracked. Replacement kit is PN 433973. About $25 at the local John/Rude dealer.

I usually use a small wire or tip cleaner to poke out the idle tube holes. You may have not used a small enough drill to poke through the hole.

But it's puzzling that the engine runs good at idle. If the hole was plugged up, it shouldn't run at idle.

Are ya' sure the cam follower roller and cam are adjusted right?

Me again Dave....just following up. You need to use a drill bit or wire that is smaller that the hole from the top side of the carb....under the black cover.

Just a question, when you throttle down to idle, is the reference mark on the cam going past the roller toward the starboard side of the engine letting the throttle plate close?
