I am still getting water in my bilge area, I have been chasing this down for ages now. I bought a used 92 2002 trophy outboard and i took it out and installed a automatic bilge pump, it goes off anytime there is more than 6 gallons of water in the bilge area, i tested this by dumping water into the bilge when it was on the trailer and the bilge was the lowest point of the boat.
So i take this boat out and the bilge pump goes on 5-10 times while i am out, just a quick on, dump a half gallon, then shut off, so i look and sure enough there is water in there. I trace that problem down to the bait tank thru hull fitting and hose, so i replace both of those parts, seal them up with silicon and hose clamp them.
Take the boat out again, and the bilge goes on twice while i am out. So i check the thru hulls on the self bailing deck, one has a little leak, so i replace all 8 of the thru hulls, the 4 on the deck and the 4 on the transom, the transom ones got parts with built in scuppers. all fittings siliconed good and hose clamped. I also removed the drain plug fitting and resealed that. Then i removed the access port by the engine and replaced it, siliconed aswell. THEN i noticed that the top of the bait tank isnt sealed, so if the bait tank overflowed, which it has, it will leak into the underside of the boat and make its way to the transom, So i sealed that up aswell. I also sealed up the mounting point where the table goes in the cuddy cabin, not that i think its leaking in from there. The built in tackle box is sealed aswell.
So i take it out again after these extensive modifications and the pump does not turn on while i am out, but when i go to the dock to pull it out, i pull the drain plug and i still get about 2 gallons of water out.
WHERE IN THE WORLD can this water be coming from?
I am out of ideas here, as to where the water is coming from. Maybe the access hatch for the gas tank??
Can someone please shed some ideas or insight as to where i am getting this water from? I am scared of rotting my stringers.
