Hey I put new rotors on and pads and no squeaks for two days and stop great, then squeak! I did not put the little pad "shims" on, two for each pad (1 per ear) marked .10, .15,.20 and .25 - I'm not sure where to measure distance from, directions kinda sketchy. Any hints? Guess I'll pop pads out and do again, I HATE SQUEAKS! Also at 164K should I replace calipers? How much$? "Seem" to be working OK, Thanks, Heinz

Heinz, if you did not apply the anti-squeak to the pads, that is why they are squeaking.
If the old pads did not have shims on them, I don't think you need to use any on the new pads, but you do need to use the anti-squeak, either in the tube or the spray.

The're anti-rattle clips/shims. Did you clean the new rotors before installing?

Aldo

Heinz, on my '96 XJ, I always had the rotor/s turned when I installed new pads, some do and some don't, but I always did and sprayed them with the anti-squeak spray and never had any problem, but as Aldo says, that's what they are, but you will still need to use the anti-squeak stuff on them, well I always did anyway.

Ok here you go pads ,shoes there are metalic ,semi metalic and aspestos or carbon[racing] shims are used for anti rattle but if you don't break the pads in right espically the metalic you get squeek because of heat generation and pads not seated right yet, so pull the wheels put the shims on or silicon lighly sand pads re-grease slider bolts[adjuster] and go out around the block ,gently apply brakes a couple of times giving time inbetween stops so rotor cools a bit all under 20 mph then increase speed to about 40 and apply brakes slowly repeat giving cooling time again Now ready they will seat in about 20 km

I did use silicon squeak stop, they are semi metallic rv pads, and I broke them in right. rotors are new good canadian ones, not cheap chinese. All else cleaned and lubed, I've done brakes plenty. Is just these little and I mean LITTLE "clips" form .10, ,15.20.25 that are supposed to go on ends of pad ears, IF you have play, I didnt use. They kinda snap on. They aren't the brake wear indicator shims.

Same pads you had or different supplier some are a pain check also for exssive brake dust might have caliper on it's way out or sticking or binding sliders not free
