I have a leaky drive shaft seal and am in the process of removing the prop shaft bearing housing.
1st question: do you have to remove the shift shaft before you pull the housing? The book says yes but can the unit be pulled with the lower unit installed?
2nd question: What other seals should I buy while this is all apart? I am looking at the two shaft seals a new retainer nut (which i drilled off) O ring for housing and others????
Any other e-pinions on this repair would be great! Thanks gang.
TH

Wow nothing on this?!?!

I have the parts am am ready to try to pull the bearing housing out. As I read the manual I wonder if the only reason you pull the shift shaft is if you plan on pulling the propshaft out to during this excersize. I had read another post that sugested replacing the seals while the housing is installed. Well tried that and it didnt work...now it has to come out. Really just trying to avoid pulling the shift shaft cause I dont want to muck up a good seal there.

question remains: do you have to pull shift shaft in order to jsut pull the bearing housing replace seals and put it back?
Thanks.TH
