Hello,

I just installed a used 93 150 evinrude tracker on my boat. The motor idles good and can rev high in netural. When I put it in gear and advance the throttle it bogs down and stalls like its starving for fuel. If I advance the throttle slowly it starts to plane the boat but then bogs down.

Before I installed the motor I did a compression check , 100psi on all cyl , ran it on the flush, it sounded good, checked the waterpump changed thermostats.
Since the problem occured I checked the fuel system for leaks and checked spark the old fasion shocking way. it all looks good.

I did notice while running that the fuel ball had collapsed even though the 6gal fuel tank was vented I replaced the fuel line which no longer collapsed the ball and it did improve the idle but I',m still having the same problem at higher rpm.
I checked the 6gal tank inside and it was free of obstruction.

Also fyi the vro is disconnected and was capped off by the previous owner.
Not sure if it was done properly.

Any ideas on my next course of action would be helpfull.

Im thinking of doing carb kits but was not sure if this would slove the issue.

is the fuel line from the 6gal tank large enough to supply the 6cyl under load at high power?

elhombre asked a good question.

My 175 requires 3/8" i.d. minimum fittings and hose from tank to motor. Anything smaller anywhere along the line won't supply enough volume to feed that sucker.

Yes its running a 3/8 fuel line. with water seperator (new filter)

I am going to try bypassing the filter by putting the new fuel line strait to the motor and also swapping out the 6gal gas tank before I start rebuilding carbs.
I had a 1988 150 evinrude on the boat before I repowered to the 93. It was a basicly a drop in replacement.

Does anyone know an easy way to test the carbs to see if they really need rebuilding?

there is not one, and just because they look clean when you open them, does not mean the jets are clean.

You can sometimes get a clue by looking at the plugs. If they look like they're running lean its a decent indicator. By no means is it a definitive test though.

Ok Thank you all for your insite.

I'm going to work on it saturday and post my results.

Hopfully its just fuel related and I can actually get out on it fishing for the first time this season :D

Sorry all forgot to post the results on this thread,

I ended up rebuilding the carbs, The jets were gacked up solid with sludge.

Used the boat all season and it runs great. Thanks to all that helped me out with this one. :D
