Thanks for a great site! I've read through 10 pages from my search and still don't know how to diagnose the problem.

When it fires, it starts right up and runs great. When it doesn't fire, well you know how that works. It is really intermittent. Took it out this weekend and wasted gas pulling the boat to the lake. No fire on any plug. Checked the kill lanyard and it was there. Pulled it home, backed it into the space and decided to try it. Started right up, perfect. Tried later that day and it still started. Tried it this morning and no fire again.

How do I check the kill lanyard? What next? What would cause an intermittent problem like this?

Thanks in advance!

Search this site for power pack, timing sensor, ignition coils.

Bret, The wire that grounds the powerpack to kill the spark is black/yellow. Disconnect it at the kill switch and the ign key and retest. If you have no spark, then it is not the kill lanyard or ign switch. The black/yellow wire may have lost some insulation and rubs against ground sometimes, killing the spark.

Remember you will need to choke out the motor to stop it.

Thanks! I'll give that a shot and let you know the outcome.
