I am looking at buying a 1993 Johnson 20hp but I'm not sure if it will be enough power.

Can the 25,30 or 35 hp carbs and intakes be put on to gain some power?

They are listed in the 20hp manual.

why not just buy the right motor in the first place? be heaps cheaper and the motor will run better (as it was intended)

Do you happen to have a low hour long shaft 30hp tiller for sale.

I knew someone that tried that, (to a different size motor) changed the power head and carbs.
He gained about a 7mph increase but it drank more gas!

Yea, I know how you feel. I don't see too many 30-35hp on craigslist, especially long shafts. I have two in my barn, but I don't think I would sell either of them. :D

very likely you can put a 30hp (or pre-84 35hp) carb and intake on there and get some more hp. I have done it on a '86 and it appears to be the same motor. As long as it is the 31.8 cubic-inch 2-cylinder engine...

your most likly gonna be looking at an intake, carb and ex tuner change.
the 20 had the tiny intake, which can actually be modified, the small venturi carb which cant and some had different tuners.
the rest was mostly the same.
