My '93 225 has turned into a hard starter. Even afer holding the key in for 8 seconds on a cold start the engine still is hard to start. Today I put the primer 90 degrees to the run position and pumped the ball and it fired right up.

I am thinking my primer may have died. What is the troubleshooting procedure? I am planning on taking the discharge hose off the primer and holding the key in. I am expecting to see fuel being pumped. Currently the primer clicks when I push the key in the prmer clicks. I am thinking I should be able to feel or hear it pumping? Any advice would be appreciated!

I had the same problem and the primer will also click. I took a chance and replaced it and it fixed the problem. Johnson Ocean Runner 225 1997.
Maybe someone else with more knowledge can help you but that was my experience.

Be real careful when pulling those little hoses off the cap. Those nipples break real easy.

Silly question but you are pumping the bulb til its firm before you turn the key, right?
