93 cajun 200hp johnson not used for 8 years

hi bought my dad's boat(he bought new) hasn't been started in 8 years. short story, dad used boat ran great, lost interest,parked it. year or so later gained interest again and he took to shop for tune up, carb cleaning, water pump etc. used it for awhile worked great. let it set again, took it out would'nt plane out, got mad been parked for remaing years, i bought it and here i am. i am a woman and i am pretty knowledgable with car motors, but not a clue with boat motors( power packs, r there more than 1, stators,etc). i know to test for spark, and compression but after that it gets foggy to me with power packs and the rest. first though what do i need to do first just to crank it over without damage? fuel clean, lower unit oil what else?

sorry for the short post ,welcome to iboats .you will need to spray some deep creep avalible at auto store its spray then turn over , after sitting over night it will need filter lines and vairous fuel maint, a factory manual for your motor will be needed, if you have inboard tank drain and clean .carbs will need to be rebuilt , probaly best done by mech ,spark test , waterpump or impellar
before it started ,probaly thermos ,and so on find that post from my previous
post and it will help ya ,repost as you ork it out and the people on here will help,there are some good mechs on here im sure they will help a lady out.

The first thing that you should do if you are going to maintain the motor yourself is to buy a 1993 factory service manual for your specific motor.

Then you will want to get rid of any trace of the old fuel in the tank, lines, fuel pump and carburetors before you crank the engine and pull it into the system.

That is a fine motor and I wish you luck with it.
