I just bought this boat and the guy had receipts from engine repair. He had the block, head, fuel pump, water impeller, new hoses belts etc. They also had the Yamaha outdrive pulled and all seals and gaskets replaced.
The rebuilt block was a Jasper.
I know finding parts for these things are hard to find but with $5000 of repairs it seemed worth the chance. Any opinions or advice or encouragement would be appriciated.

Try to get your money back, you can buy a good running boat with a Merc or Volvo drive that still has parts and techs available to fix them for $5000.

There is almost NO support for Yamaha sterndrives, except for Capt Ken, and parts and help online is next to nothing either.

I wonder how much money it would take to switch out the stern drive?

All ya can do is see how it plays out....

Personally, I wouldn't have taken the bet, 'n I do my own work...

Yeah I knew I was rolling the bones. Now well see. How much would a new or used out drive cost? Would I have to replace the motor as well.

Ayuh,... Ya gotta swap Everything from the pulleys to the prop,...

New, probably $5/ $10,000...

Most of Us buy a rotten hull with a serviceable driveline, 'n junk out the hull for the repower...

On the bright side, the transom hole is Right, for either a Mercruiser, or late model Volvo...

Thanks for that little bit of encouragement. The Hull and seats are really clean so I hope to get a few years out of it.
