Hopefully someone will be able to help me. I have a 93 johnson 115hp v4. I and having problems starting it. It takes a while to get her running. When the engine is cold i am not able to get it started in nuetral. I have to have it in gear and for at least a minute or so until I am able to put back in nuetral to warm up. Takes at least ten minutes to even get her running. When it runs it'll run good. I was told by someone to replace the coils. Any feedback would be great as this is my first boat. Thanks

If you're starting it in gear, then you have a faulty neutral detect switch. That's located in the remote unit. It's designed to prevent you from starting in gear. There may be other issues, but that's certainly something that needs to get fixed.

Thanks for the quick response. So I should basically replace the whole shifting unit

No need to replace the whole remote unit. There's a switch in there that makes contact with the shifter cam. It's either malfunctined or mis-aligned. That's all you need to correct.

So when it starts, it's in gear and you're moving - right?

That is correct. I'll put one in and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your help
