Last week, my motor ran at half power till I shut it down. Ran good the rest of the day. When it is running, you can feel bumps like there is a short somewhere in the ignition or other electrical place. I don't think it is a fuel problem because there is no pattern to it. Sometimes it runs good and sometimes it doesn't. It may run good the first time running on the lake or it may loose power in the middle of a run down the lake. It may run poor part of the time or good all day. Sometimes it will be running poorly then just take off. I have spent $100's of dollars to have mechanics look at it and it may run good for a while but then get back to the same thing. I am an electrician and I believe I have a intermentant short somewhere in the electrical system. Does anyone have any ideas. I hate to just start replacing parts. That can get expensive. The important thing is you can feel little bumps when it is running like there is a something or someplace shorting out while it is running.

What does your tach. do when you feel the "miss" or "bump"?

Re: 93 johnson 120

i would start off by testing the spark on each cylinder to see if all cylinders were firing, you can purchase a spark tester at most automotive stores for around 12 dollars. another way to see if one cyllinder or more are missing is to use a timing light. have you checked the compression? you could have a dead cylinder.... just couple of suggestions to get started with, hope it helps!
