How do I determine if '93 John. 200hp is a cross- flow or a looper? Doesn't it have to do with the exhaust cover between the two banks of cylinders?
Flat pistons : cross-flow or looper ? So domed pistons would be the other - Right?
Which is considered a better motor - cross or loop? Any info appreciated.

:)

Hey Jim....found yer post way down the line....thought it needed an answer.

Loopers will have flat top pistons. Loopers also do not have fuel bypass covers on the side of the block.

Loopers are considered the better of the two.

Yes...yours is a looper. :D

OBJ: Appreciate the come back. Was always curious. Thought you could tell by exhaust area between cylinder banks never thought of bypass covers. Again, thanks.

another easy well to tell is that a crossflow engine has flat covers, held by a number of 7/16" headed bolts, over the cylinder heads. A looper only has headbolts and the head is a single aluminum casting.

Also, on 90 thru 175hp motors, crossflows have the trim button on the starboard side of the pan, loopers are on the port side.
