Hi everyone,
New to boating. I just purchased a 93 procraft fish and ski. Having problems! On first trip to lake, motor seemed like it jumped out gear. Had real high idle in neutral. Towed back to bank and found idle screw had been ran in too far and was stuck under stop. Repaired that. Motor seems to run fine now hooked up to water hose. Took back to lake but now will not go forward. Goes in reverse. Pulled prop off. Should I be able to turn prop shaft with motor in forward gear? Any help greatly appreciated

To adjust the shift cable, remove both cables from the holder of the barrel nut. Pull or push the shift cable until the motor goes into neutral and stays there. Now, with the throttle handle in neutral, adjust the barrel nut until it fits the shift cable clamp. Push the throttle closed. Adjust the throttle cable barrel nut until it fits the clamp, with some preload.

If the prop still slips, you may have a bad prop hub or a bad gearcase.

Ok, tried adjusting cable- ng. Same issue. After more troubleshooting and removing lower unit, I concluded that lower unit was bad. Purchased new lower unit from sei industries! New lower unit has 4 3/4 in gearcase. My old case and prop was a 4 1/4. Any ideas if I can still use my prop? Shaft size and all are the same but diameter of gearcase 1/2 inchbigger.

you can try it but like most "normal boaters" ya may not like it.. it will ventilate a lot more when ya hammer it plus tha gear ratio is gonna be different so you may not be happy with it either way..tha "little case" came on xr4 and 6 only with 1.78 ta 1 gears.. tha "big case came on all tha rest and can be either 1.87 or 2 ta 1's... probably need ta start lookin' for another prop...

Ge,my '93 Merc 135HP motor has the larger gearcase. I did not know they made a smaller one as well on the V6. You will want to buy a new prop with the larger hub, in the same pitch. Turning Point Hustler aluminum is a good prop.

Chris, pitch may need ta change 'cause of 1.78 ta 1 gear ratio since thats a given.. if "new" case is 1.87 ta 1 maybe can get away with it but if its a 2 ta 1 pitch will probably have ta change (go up) if he was already runin' max or close on rpm....... huge difference in tha 1.78's and tha 2 ta 1's....
