'93 Rude 175 - Rectifier Regulator Question

What happens if the +12 V signal is removed from the purple wire going to the Rectifier/Regulator while the engine is running. Will it damage the Rectifier/Regulator?

(Mine just went bad, I want to eliminate any possible cause).

won't hurt it. Thats what happens everytime you shut the engine off..
