93 Tilt Trim electrical

I bought a 93 40 hp Merc. tilt and trim I'm installing on my 82 50 hp Merc. The guy who sold me the tilt/trim can't find the wiring harness and solenoids for it. Can't I just run the trim with a 3 prong toggle switch?? The trim is a two wire blue/green.

You could run with heavy wire (4-6 AWG) and a heavy duty switch, however, the solenoids will be cheaper. You need to determine if that is a three wire motor or a two wire motor. Put a ohmmeter across blue to ground, and then green to ground (Ground is the motor casing). If you have contunity (which you should) it is a three wire motor, and you need to use solenoids. Power goes to either the blue wire (for up) or the green wire (for down). If no contunity, you have a two wire motor and you need to use relays.
