Hey just noticed a small amount of oil dripping out from behind my propeller. According to my service manual I need to remove the lower unit and pull the carrier out to replace the two seals? Is that absolutely necessary or is the shortcut method I’ve seen online using what looks like drywall screws easy enough to pull off?

Pressure test this gearcase first.----Some leakage on 2 strokes is just what happens and is normal.

The dripping oil could be 2 cycle oil. Give it a sniff. 2 cycle oil smells like oil or more likely gasoline. Gear oil smells like rotten eggs.

They almost always ingest water before starting to leak.

Pull the drain plug in the LU and check for water. No water = Unburnt 2 stroke fuel

Cool thanks!!! Fingers crossed it isn't leaking. It for sure doesn't have water in it.
