94 40 horse merc oil injected hard starting cold and hot

I have a 94 40 horse oil injected mercury outboard that is really hard to start even when hot. I replaced all 4 spark plugs, fuel filter, removed and cleaned both carbs. It runs good after starting never hesitates when excellerating. I ran the motor for an hour on the lake periodically shuting motor down and restarting it. Every time it restarted it would turn over several times before starting. I ran it back to the dock to load on trailor I left it running ,after 5 minutes it died. I tried to restart it for about ten minutes but it wouldnt restart. Any ideas on what my problem is?

I'll be interested in a answer too, mine is a 89 oil injected model and I took it in and had carbs done, new enricher, fuel pump, spark plugs, compression check, and it's still hard to start hot or cold.

If carbs are clean, hard starting is a common problem if it's idling lean. Try opening the idle mixture screws 1/8th turn. Let us know the outcome as this is a common problem.

Actually I think it's getting too much gas but I can't prove that. If it ever stops raining I'm gonna try it without using the enricher.

Update. After spending 700 dollars having alot of stuff done to it without an improvement, I decided to trouble shoot it myself. At first I thought it was getting too much gas but the shop told me it wasn't getting enough. After I changed the water filter and hose from the tank to the filter it started up much better. I probably didn't have to change the hose because I'm sure the filter is the culprit now, the shop told me they checked that but how did they do that without changing it. I don't think the filter has been changed in ten years plus if ever.

Thanks for ur advice I opened the idle mixture screw and it starts every time hot or cold
