my 50 hp vro is to get a rebuild i think oil trouble caused it. I am going to have to replace piston/rod/bearings. in the top cyl.bottom is ok but it will get rings. found parts here on iboats. One boat shop says to bore .20-.30 i think .20 will get grooves out. another says resleeve. need advise

If the cylinder can be restored with .020 or .030 over then that's my recommendation.More important is the cause.Note that oil failure on that engine to just one cylinder is almost certainly a restricted carburetor issue.Make certain that it is rectified or you'll be doing this all over again.

If the failure was caused by a clogged carb, premix would not have prevented the problem. The newer oiling system is pretty much problem free.Reboring would certainly be the way to go, Just make sure you use a shop that is experienced with 2 cycle engines. Many auto shops are not.

marysboats is right horsefly.VRO oiling issues are not cylinder selective since the mixing occurs before the carburetor inlets. If premixing buys you more peace of mind however, you won't be the first or last that converted.Good luck in your repair.

Yep, OMC / BRP oil injection cannot pick on one cylinder. Just keep in mind that if, like the guys say, removing it gives you reace of mind then remove it. But be aware that you should find out what really caused the problem so it doesn't happen again.

FYI -- there are oversize pistons up to .040 over for that motor.

Make sure to use a marine machine shop for the rebore and tell them what specific pistons you'll use. Auto machine shops are NFG for outboards.

the rod cap bolts may have came loose /they were backed way out [almost broke the case ]lucky they did not. piston/cyl damage, but rings are not broke /rod bearing is toast so is the crank end of rod /luck agian crank is o.k and wrist pin has no damage.finding someone here with marine boring exp. will be rough, may as well try it myself. I have done 2 stroke bikes and they ran well

Finding a good marine machine shop for you will be very easy. One of the best in the country is Mar-Fab in Sparta Tennessee.

Measure that crankshaft, don't go by how it look's. I beleive the tolerance is + or - .0003 to .ooo5 here. It may look smooth, but may not be round any longer.
