Got a boat that has no tack on it. Was not installed from the factory. Bought a tack and need to know which wires to hook them up to. Its a 94 model rude 90hp V4. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

WillyBWright

I am having some trouble finding the correct wiring harness for my motor. Since it didnt have one from the factory its not there. Can I run my own wires for this install and if I can can you lead me through the process. I need to get this done as fast as possable as I am adding a 4 inch jack plate and need to be able to record rpm numbers. I am also adding a water pressure gauge so I can keep an eye on that. Doing this because of the waters I fish in. VERY stunpy and VERY weedy and there are times I have to go into placrs on plane to get in there. Looking forward to hearing from you. By the way I read on the tack install instructions (the ones that came with the tack) that there is a wire that needs to be moved on the powerhead if there has been no tack installed. Do you know which one they are talking about. Thanks in advance,

You can use your own wires -- provided you know what you are doing. If you have a side control box, look below the key and you'll see a connector. Thats for the tach. Crimp ring terminals on the tach end of the three tach wires. Forget the lights for now. Attach those wires to the tach and route the other ends to the connector on the engine control box. Crimp or solder males pins to each wire and slide them into the mating holes in the connector. Not perfect solution but it will work until you locate the actual tach harness. Try here on iBoats or Cabela's. I know they have them. The light can be connected to one of the other light terminals on whatever other instruments you have.

Thanks folks for the info. Finally located the correct wiring harness. But I did make up a temporary harness. Now I can start to get this thing running at the best she can. For example propping the boat, engine height etc..etc.. also adding a water pressure gauge as well cause she's got a jackplate on her now. Once again thanks for the info and I'll report back when I reach the maximum I can get outta her. Right now she is running 48 GPS tourney loaded and full of fuel.
