HI all, new to this site and looking for answers. I just put this 112hp evinrude on my boat to replace a 70hp johnson. My buddy just bought a boat with the 112hp on it from a dealer in Tennessee, who said the motor was completley checked out, and actually still has a warranty there in Tennessee, I am from Ohio. Anyway this engine flat out screams, but once you get to WOT, it will cut out and bog down after a minute or so. I have removed the pickup tube from the tank, was clean and screen was clear. replaced fuel line from tank to the engine, checked vent....clear. I was told to hook up a seperate line from the outbound side of the fuel pump and crank the engine to see if fuel is being pumped and it is, I have no way of knowing how much it should, but it was a steady stream with each crank (into a jar). When we are on the water, the boat will run great as long as someone is sqeezing the bulb, so I am thinking it has to be the fuel pump right? There weird thing is, on the 70hp it would do the same thing and bog down, just would not completley die like the 112hp is doing. It was doing something similar on the first engine also which is why I first suspected the tank itself. I am lost here guys and dont know where else to look, please any advice would be great.

Hmmm! What size is your fuel line? Also check your antisiphon valve

I will have to check the fuel line size, where is the antisiphon valve located?

If you purchased one of those fuel lines from Wally World, I will bet this is your problem. If you look closely, the fuel hose is smaller (which makes it fine for smaller motors) however, your fuel line should be at least 3/8" from the tank to the motor. Some people have eliminated the fuel plug (on the motor) all together and went straight to the fuel pump with the hose.

Sure sounds like fuel to me.

is the vent open on the tank? is the primer bulb collasping. if it is not collasping it is getting plenty of fuel, which eliminates the tank and hose size. look at fuel pump.

When ever I have a problem wioth fuel starvation at WOT, I start at the carbs and replace the complete fuel system all the way to the tank. Lines, pump, primer bulb. Use 3/8" line with oem primer bulb, nothing from Wally world.

Fantastic future sticky at the top of the page on fuel pump rebuild, rebuild kit not to expensive, and by replacing the complete fuel system you then have the peace of mind in knowing that everything is good to go for the next few seasons.

Trying to diagnose a fuel delivery problem can be frustrating, I just found it a lot less time consuming to replace the system completely, more time on the water and less time in the shop.

Yeh! that was my first thought. But both engines ? BTW. I have enjoyed reading your sage advice to all these problems that the guys are having. You have helped me a great deal. Thank you for that.
