OK, I just bought this rig with twin 94 Ev. 200s, and here is where I am at. Sea trialed the boat, ran fine, had mech. check compression and lower units, all fine, but did fine flywheel magnets starting to get loose, installed OMC Kit, fixed. Boat sat for 2 weeks, crank up and go. Run about 1/2 mile and the port engine shuts down to about 1500 rpms, sometimes it comes back up sometimes it does not. Seperate fuel tanks for each engine, stb runs fine, same gas/oil in both. Changed fuel filters with no change in motor. It acts like the S.L.O.W. system is kicking in, but I get no warning horn, it is not overheating, and the VRO is disabled. The only thing I did between the sea trial and this problem is fuel up. This engine smells like it is running too rich to me, but not smoaking either. There was no water in the old fuel filter. If I throttle back, it cuts off, then as I give it gas to keep it running, it cuts off again, pumping the primer bulb during this time makes no change either, nor does pushing in the choke. She cranks evey time, just wont run above idle for more than a minute. Any suggestions?

Ahoy, Capt. Lou.

Sounds like you have a powerpack intermittently failing, dropping that engine to 3 cylinders.

Good luck. :)

Thanks JB, I have the shop manual now, and all of my symptoms say they could be caused by a faulty power pack, or a bad sensor. Will test the sensors next trip to the marina.

Lou
I have a 95 175 evin that had a similar problem.
The powerpack is split into two banks and one side was intermittent. New pack made it all go away.
Good Luck

Sensors checked out fine, got it warmed up and put the spark tester to work. Nothing on 1,3,& 5. Got a power pack on the way, hope it does the trick.

Re: 94 Evinrude 200 help

If there is no spark on 1.3.and 5, you may have a shift interupter switch that is acting up or stiff cables making it activate when it shouldn't. Since it is the whole right bank of the motor without spark, the stator charge coil for that side could be bad.

It may be cheaper to have it checked by a QUALIFIED professional, than buying parts until it works right.

OK, thanks to everyone for their input. I am back up and running fine, it was the power pack. I got the new one on today and she ran like a champ. One thing I would tell the next guy, buy the book, it makes it a lot easier to understand. :)
