well i was just givin a FREE 94' johnson 140 today...the guy said it ran but had a cooling problem...but i couldnt argue with the price d:) it is a 25" and my transom is a 20" but i'm gonna use a jackplate and try to make it work on my 18ft CC if i can get it running.

i'd like to get it on my workstand to do a compression check/spark check... i bought a engine hoist today..but i dont have a lifting eye..a cargo strap will only pick it up horizontal..i need to lift it vertical so i can drill holes in my stand to bolt it....where is best place to get a lift eye?

also which manual is better to get me started on this motor... a clymer or seloc? i'll get a manf. service manual as soon as i can.

i also need a wiring harness w/ key and control cables...i'll check ebay for those or if anyone has some PM me.....heck if anyone has any of these things private message me please

is there a place online that has illustrated parts breakdown for johnson... mercury has this site and its great...http://www.mercruiserparts.com/ anything like this for johnson?

any tips or suggestions is greatly appreciated...

here is some pics of it...

Youur a lucky man.OMC (and maybe others)make a lifting eye that uses the 3 bolt holes in the flywheel. The same ones that remove it.Or,what I have done, get yourself an extra flywheen nut and have a ring welded on it.Works great and when the fly wheel is off you can still lift the engine. As for controls, Ive seen plenty on ebay,a standard omc control box will work fine,if they dont have trim and tilt thats okay because you can buy the parts cheap enough from a dealer ,or you can just use a 3 position toggle mounted on your dash.the cables, dont go with used, you can buy cables cheap at west marine ,or internet, you need to know the size anyway.Motor is overheating, start at impeller, then the thermostats,I remember a recall or service bullitian on the older looper engines for thermo.Be sure to do a compression check before you do anything. That will put you in a start position on what to do first

No problem. It might be a little hard to keep still, while cranking.

Re: 94' johnson 140 questions

woohoo!! just did a compression check

120 125
125 125

is it normal for that top left one to be alil lower? on forces it normal for one to be alil lower.

i think i'm gonna go to bass pro and buy some marine tex and 5200 so i can get my transom doweled up before it rains this week.....then i'll come back and work on modifying my engine stand to fit this motor.....whew.. wow ..big relief for me in seeing these comp results...
