94 Johnson Oceanrunner Exhaust Housing

When I recently removed my lower unit, I could see that the upper exhaust gasket was a mess. It is the gasket just below the powerhead. It looks like I need to remove or lift the power head to replace this gasket. Is this really the case?

I forgot to mention it is a 150 hp and the gasket is the one at the bottom of the upper exhaust housing.

I think you mean the powerhead mounting gasket,what gives you the idea it is bad,water or oil or exhust leaking?The powerhead would need removing to change.not a bad job as long as the 6 long bolts on the side come loose and the smaller ones located on dide and rear of p/h.you will also have bolts and nuts in front
